Google Announces Better Notifications For Penalties
What Has Changed?
In its attempt to make reconsideration requests more transparent, Google will respond to your appeals clearly. It will tell you whether your site was affected by a manual spam action or not. And it will also tell you if they revoked the penalty post your reconsideration request. If the news is not good for you, or in other words if your site is still in violation of the Google guidelines, then that too will be relayed to you. And if your site is back in form and the penalty is lifted, then that too will be conveyed to you.
In the other scenario, that your site gets affected by an automated ranking downgrade courtesy the Googles algorithms. Then you have to sit back, as Google will not do anything on its part. If you improve the site, the ranking will automatically improve. This is what Google said, your site isnt being ranked highly by our algorithms, in which case our systems will respond to improvements on the site as changes are made, without your needing to submit a reconsideration request. Or maybe your site has access issues that are preventing Googlebot from crawling and indexing it.
What This Means?
In the past, if your site went down, all you could do was submit reconsideration requests; got a reply from Google that they had received those requests. But now things are better. You know if your received manual penalty of not and whether your reconsideration appeal reached or not. The search engine has assured of further improvements in the future.

Can Reading Level Fix Panda?
This may be linked to Google Panda update wherein duplicate and poor quality content were excluded from search results. Google can take note of the depth of the content of a particular website, and can come up with results in accordance with the user's preference.
For example, when a scholar doing research on a particular phase of Indian history will browse Google for research purpose, he will do it with the objective to have an in-depth knowledge about his field/subject. In this case the reading level can be dubbed as "advanced".
On the other hand, when a teenager is browsing Google to know about the smartphone he is planning to buy, all that he is looking for are the features and the price of that handset. It may be termed as just a "basic" reading level.
So if Google categorizes a website on the basis of its reading level (advanced or basic or intermediate), then it clearly reflects Google's understanding of the website's content depth and quality.
Now the question is, is it related to Google Panda update?
It might be assumed that when the content of a website is branded as a poor quality one, then it will be assigned to either basic reading level or below it. On the other hand, a favourable evaluation of a website's content will get that website categorized as one of advanced or intermediate reading level.
So it might be concluded that -
- A website having a huge volume of good quality content is to be categorized as a website of advanced reading level.
On the other hand, a website is to be categorized as a website of basic reading level, if -
- its content is of low quality Or
- the content is of good quality but suffers from lesser depth and volume.

Google Presents The +1 Button!
Google has rolled out one more feature to its social search. The +1 button is a button that will allow you to recommend search results, ads, web pages etc., to your friends. This feature is currently available for search results page. Google will add the +1 button feature to ads and also pages, you can sign up for e-mail updates for the same.
Google says that, "We expect that these personalized annotations will help sites stand out by showing users which search results are personally relevant to them. As a result, +1's could increase both the quality and quantity of traffic to the sites people care about." The +1's will also be considered by Google just like it uses social signals from other services to determine a page's relevance and ranking. It works quite like the Facebook 'Like' option.
How it works
When you run a search, with your Google account signed in, and find a quality page in the organic search results, you can click the +1 button and recommend it (the site or page) to your friends. The next time your friends sign in to their Google account and run a similar search, he/she will find that you have recommended a particular site or page. Your friend can then quickly follow the recommended link knowing it is worth a visit as it has been recommended by someone he/she knows and trusts.
The +1's, according to Google, will make search even more personal and relevant. Users can recommend the content, ads etc., that are of high quality and the site or pages that has the quality content gets human recommendations and can expect better ranked for their quality. Here is a video of the +1 button released by Google. You can visit the Google Webmaster Central Help Center for any further +1 related queries.

Application Rich Snippets From Google
There is no doubt that the snippets will make search results to be very indicative. The search result will contain a thumbnail image of the application, along with application rating (presented by stars), number of people who have rated it, the price of the application, and the latest review on it. In a nutshell, one can get a glimpse of some key information by just having a glance at the search result, without even requiring to open it. Very convenient indeed.
And yes, it is not that the snippet can help to indicate only one particular property of an application. Rather it can be used to indicate each and every property. The objective is to give as much idea as possible to the user at the very first glance.
With a search for any type of application (security application, computer games application or whatever) coming up with a huge volume of search results, it always becomes difficult for an user to narrow down his search on the ones from among which he has to make his final choice. It seems now it will be much easier for him.
